The Ford Edge is one of the most refined midsize crossover SUVs on the roads of Cincinnati, Newport, and Covington, and for good reason. It offers tons of room for luggage and passengers, a smooth and comfortable ride quality, superb engine performance, and impressive towing capability for a vehicle in its class. However, there's another reason why people choose this vehicle, and that's for its fuel economy.
Crossovers are becoming more popular than ever, especially as manufacturers create engines that no longer fit the gas guzzler mold, and instead offer very solid efficiency to go along with their performance. We here at Fuller Ford have created this Ford Edge MPG reference guide to break down the different powertrains and how it stacks up with the rest of the features.

Ford Edge MPG and Powertrains
In terms of power, the 2020 Ford Edge offers two engines to choose from-each of which offers different numbers for fuel economy. The base option is a 2.0L twin-scroll turbocharged EcoBoost® engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It comes standard with a front-wheel drivetrain (FWD) and offers Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) as an optional upgrade.
Moving up, the high-end Edge ST trim equips you with a 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 twin-turbocharged direct-injection engine mated to the same 8-speed transmission, but it adds the AWD system standard. Altogether, this gives you three different configurations to examine, so let's get started!
2.0L Turbo EcoBoost® Engine & FWD
The 2.0L EcoBoost® engine in the Ford Edge nets you 250 horsepower backed up by 280 lb-ft of torque. Combined with the 8-speed transmission and FWD, this gives you an EPA-estimated 21 city/29 highway MPG.
2.0L Turbo EcoBoost® Engine & AWD
You can also opt for the available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system to work alongside your 2.0L EcoBoost® engine. While you'll still receive the same amount of horsepower and torque, this AWD system will easily boost your overall performance. When the roads begin to get icy, they'll be no match for this traction-monitoring machine, though you will be cutting back slightly on fuel economy.
Still, the numbers are respectable, with this model getting an EPA-estimated 21 city/28 highway MPG. It may not match up to some hybrid models or sedans, but for a standard turbocharged engine, it's a solid number.
2.7L EcoBoost® V6 Engine & AWD
If you step up to the ST trim level, your only option is an upgraded 2.7L turbo EcoBoost® V6 engine with the Intelligent AWD system. As for output, this engine gives you 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.
This engine is also capable of a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. With all this performance, you might think that it would lower your fuel economy, but the Ford Edge MPG with this powertrain may surprise you: It gets an EPA-estimated 19 city/26 highway MPG.
