At Fuller Ford, we wanted to find out which of these light-duty pickups had the most to offer our Cincinnati-area customers, so we compared the 2019 Ford F-150 vs. the Chevy Silverado.
What we found is that only one truck consistently pulled ahead in what kind of performance, towing, and payload capabilities they can offer Newport and Covington drivers.
2019 Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado: Engine Specs
When you're looking to add a pickup truck to your personal or professional life, you're likely interested in something with a lot of power under the hood.
The 2019 Ford F-150 and Silverado offer a lot of strength in their standard options, but it's when you look at what's possible in the available options that you start to see a real difference in performance capabilities.
Looking at all the available engines, the most formidable option the Chevy Silverado offers is the 6.2L V8, which generates a maximum horsepower of 420 and a maximum torque of 460 lb-ft.
The available High Output 3.5L V6 EcoBoost® engine in the Ford F-150, however, surpasses those numbers, with a maximum horsepower of 450 and a maximum torque of 510 lb-ft. While both trucks made an impressive effort, the Ford offers a more satisfying engine if you want a lot of power and strength from your truck.
F-150 vs Silverado 1500 Towing Capacities
With the amount of torque the Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado boast, it's no surprise that they can both pull more than 10,000 pounds of weight. In fact, when properly equipped, the Silverado reaches a maximum towing capacity of 12,200 pounds.
The F-150 one-ups the Silverado again here, though, with a maximum towing capacity of 13,200 pounds. And while towing all that weight, the available Pro Trailer Backup Assistâ„¢ feature in the F-150 offers additional trailering control. Â
This feature allows drivers to use a knob on the dashboard to keep the trailer steady and moving in the right direction while reversing. The Silverado doesn't make a comparable feature available, so drivers may have more difficulty with precise parking maneuvers.

Payload Capabilities in the F-150 and Silverado
While both trucks can pull over five tons behind them, the real question is what they can carry on their backs.
Both the Chevy Silverado and Ford F-150 offer a choice of three bed sizes, but, despite volume, the F-150 can carry much more weight. This truck has a maximum payload capacity of 3,270 pounds, compared to just 2,250 pounds in the Silverado.
With its lightweight body and hefty payload capabilities, the 2019 Ford F-150 is the truck to choose if you need to do some heavy lifting.
