The base entry to the Explorer lineup comes with a 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft of torque, with the option of a 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 280 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The Limited also comes with the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.
The Sport trim is the performance option in the lineup. It includes all-wheel drive and a more powerful turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that produces 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, a beefier suspension and a towing package that gives you all the features you need for towing. Otherwise, the Sport offers many of the same features from the previous trim levels, so you're not compromising the comfort and technology.
If you're looking for power without the performance enhancements, the Platinum is the way to go. This model has a softer suspension and all-wheel drive, but also includes the Sport's turbocharged V6 for more accessible power and capability. It also comes with the features from the Ford Safe & Smart® Package, a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable pedals, premium leather upholstery, an automated parking system, premium audio, and a panoramic sunroof.
