The compact SUV is a highly versatile vehicle, able to go from work to play at the drop of the hat. This ability truly shows in the 2020 Ford Escape and 2020 Nissan Rogue.

To figure out which of these options has the most to offer Cincinnati, Newport, and Covington area drivers, Fuller Ford compared the two SUVs on the points of engine specs, capability, and safety features.

Ford Escape vs Nissan Rogue: Engine Specs

If you like your SUV to carry a bit of a kick under the hood, neither the Ford Escape nor the Nissan Rogue will disappoint.

The 2020 Nissan Rogue features a standard 2.5L I4 engine that generates an impressive 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The standard 1.5L EcoBoost® I3 engine in the 2020 Ford Escape is fairly comparable. It offers slightly more power with its ability to create 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque.

Unlike the Rogue, this SUV offers additional engine choices as well. If you really want a punch of power, the available 2.0L EcoBoost® I4 engine in the Escape generates 250 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque.

By not offering this kind of strength and power in its engine options, drivers in the Rogue may have a less thrilling ride and decreased capabilities.

Handling and Towing Capabilities

When you're regularly faced with the kind of unpredictable weather we see in this part of the country, you need an SUV that's up for the challenge, as both the Escape and Rogue are.

The Ford Escape and Nissan Rogue each have an available all-wheel drive (AWD) system. This kind of drivetrain monitors road conditions to shift torque between the front and back wheels. The result is all-around improved traction.

These vehicles also allow you to bring along more gear with you with their ability to tow. The 2020 Rogue reaches a maximum towing capacity of 1,102 pounds, while the Escape can max out at 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. This is partially due to the higher torque output in the Escape.

While either SUV can weather a storm, the Escape is a clear choice for helping your friend move or taking a boat to the lake up north.

Ford Escape vs Nissan Rogue Safety Features

As you traverse the city streets and cruise down the surrounding highways, you can feel at ease with the safety technology available in both the Ford Escape and Nissan Rogue.

They both have a range of features that can help assist you while navigating the roads. With the 2020 Ford Escape though, there are additional features you can get that aren't available in the 2020 Rogue.

The Ford Escape includes available rain-sensing windshield wipers for an added assist, which turn on automatically and adjust their speed to match the rate of precipitation on the windshield. The 2020 Escape also has the available Active Park Assist 2.0. This technology can maneuver your SUV into parallel or perpendicular parking spots all on its own.
