If you want a car that's city-friendly for your commutes into Cincinnati but tough enough to take on the Newport and Covington back roads, you may find a lot to like about a compact SUV like the 2018 Ford EcoSport.

To show you what we mean, the team at Fuller Ford of Cincinnati put together this Ford EcoSport review in which we'll discuss this vehicle's powertrain options, cargo space, and technology features.

Powertrain Options for the 2018 EcoSport

Inside the 2018 Ford EcoSport, you'll find two efficient powertrains. The one that's right for you, however, depends on what kind of drivetrain you're looking for.

If you prefer a lightweight front-wheel drivetrain (FWD), then your EcoSport will come with a 1.0L EcoBoost® I-3 engine. This delivers 123 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque. It also gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 28 MPG combined.

The Intelligent 4WD (4-wheel drive) system is also available. This is handy for off-roading or braving a winter morning commute because it actively monitors your roadway conditions. It then redistributes torque as necessary between your front and rear wheels to improve your grip on the road.

This drivetrain is paired with a 2.0L I-4 engine that generates 166 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque. With this powertrain, you'll get a combined fuel economy of an EPA-estimated 25 MPG.

EcoSport Cargo Management

The 2018 EcoSport may be a compact SUV, but it offers plenty of space for everything you need when you pack up for your next getaway. If all five passenger seats are filled, you'll still have 20.9 cubic feet of trunk space for your luggage. This cargo area is versatile, as well, thanks to the available Cargo Management System that allows you to adjust the load floor height to accommodate taller items.

You can also fold the rear seats down flat and access this SUV's full 50-cubic-foot cargo capacity. If that's not enough, available roof-rack side rails let you carry larger items like bikes and kayaks up on the roof so that you can save space inside for camping equipment, coolers of pop, and other odds-and-ends.

As an extra perk, an available climate-controlled glovebox allows you to keep chilled bottles of water within reach from the driver's seat at all times while you're en route to your destination.

2018 EcoSport Technology Features

No doubt about it, the Ford EcoSport is a modern SUV, and as such, it has an abundance of technology that greets you when you slide behind the wheel. The first thing you may notice is the available 8-inch floating touchscreen display.

This sits above the center stack so that vital information is closer to your line of vision. With the available SYNC® 3 infotainment system and Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ capabilities, this screen can display navigation, incoming phone calls, or music streaming info from your paired smartphone.

You can have confidence when merging onto a busy highway as well, with the available Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®). This system monitors your side blind spots for other vehicles. If another car enters that area, you'll receive an alert via a yellow dot on your sideview mirror.
